- My child was 'just below expectations' or 'below expectations' in their diagnostic test. Does that mean that my child has to attend the Summer Academic Program?
Whether or not your child is required to attend the Summer Academic Program depends on their grade. Please check the school policy on Academic Support Programs in the Family Handbook. If you are still unsure, please contact us at leap@kist.ed.jp.
However, as a general rule, if your child was ''just below expectations' or 'below expectations' it is highly recommended that you make use of the summer holidays to help them to get back on track. - My child recieved a letter from the principal saying that they are required to attend. My summer plans are already made and we cannot attend. What should we do?
Please submit the 'Summer Program Exemption Form' to the office as soon as possible. Exemptions may be granted under certain conditions, such as to students who are attending another intensive summer program or are receiving frequent intensive private tutoring.
- How do I know which class my child should attend in session 1?
The classes will be split up automatically based on your child's most recent diagnostic test results (March for G2, May for G3 - G6). All you need to tell us is whether you would like for your child to attend English, or math, or both.
- Will there be homework?
The Summer Academic Program is designed as an intensive skill boosting program, so you should expect your child to have homework every day. There is no homework for the Summer Day Camp.
- Can I make a change to my application?
Please submit the Summer Program Change of Application Details form to the Main Office (in person or fax) or email it through to leap@kist.ed.jp.
- My situation has changed and I need to cancel. What are my options?
Please submit the Summer Program Change of Application Details form to the Main Office (in person or fax) or email it through to leap@kist.ed.jp. In addition, make sure you check our cancelation policy for the Summer Program on the Application page in regards to refunds.
- Who will be teaching the classes?
Classes will be taught by a mixture of KIST staff and KIST alumni who have shown proficiency in English and mathematics. Each program is overseen by a program coordinator to ensure quality of instruction.
- My child has received an offer of enrollment, and is joining KIST from August. Can we apply for the Summer Program?
Yes. However, you will need to wait until you receive your KIST Parent e-mail address and login details from the school office. We will contact you as soon as your login details are ready.
- My child is currently on the waiting list to join KIST. Can we apply for the Summer Program?
Current KIST/KIPS students will be given priority entry into the program. We will open up applications to students on the waiting list in early June. If you would like to join the Summer Program waiting list, please contact us on leap@kist.ed.jp.
